Compost is the shortest path from kitchen scraps and yard waste to better soil. If you are growing food, or planning to, this workshop will show you how to make that loop work in a Maryland backyard.

I will cover:

  1. What compost is and why it's key to growing your own food well.

  2. The main methods that actually work at home: hot compost, vermicompost, and Bokashi.

  3. The equipment each method needs, including how to build a simple DIY worm bin and how to make your own Bokashi preparation.

You will leave with a 5-lbs small bag of worm castings (a $20 value). There will be time for questions.

Cost: $65 per person. Space is limited.

Each participant will take home:

  • A 5-lbs bag of worm castings

Workshop Details:

  • Date & Time: Saturday, October 3d, 2026, 1:00–2:30 PM

  • Location: Nest Proper, 5303 Baltimore Ave in Hyattsville, MD

  • Cost: $65

  • Includes: Live Q&A, practical takeaways, and your 5-lbs bag of worm castings
